Legend has it that Kerala is
the creation of the great
sage Parasu Rama, who was the son of another sage Jamadagni. One
day Jamadagni found that his wife was unfaithful and in his rage
he asked Parasu Rama to kill his mother. Parasu Rama immediately
hacked her to death with his axe ('Parasu' means axe). Jamadagni
was pleased and allowed Parasu Rama to ask for boons.
Spontaneously Parasu Rama asked for the life of his mother and
Jamadagni resurrected her. Later Parasu Rama killed all the
rebellious Kshatriyas(warriors). Then he threw his axe into the
sea. Suddenly a mass of land rose from the sea and it was Kerala.
Parasu Rama gave all the land to the Brahmins.
In
the recent history, Kerala became one of state , only in 1956 ,
before which there Kings ruled parts of Kerala .Kerala is a narrow
silver of land that adheres to the Arabian sea and carries the
burden of being India's role model state. The tiny coastal State
is a phenomenon in more ways than one. |
